The company was formed in 1998 by Owen McGuigan and Martin Simpson, together with Mellanskog Industrie AB. Mellanskog later merged with Assi Domain to form the Setra Group of which M&S (Softwood) Ltd is now a member company. The group comprises forestry owners, sawmills and planing mills located in central and northern Sweden.
The company operates from two warehouses (approx. 8000m2) located on the docks in King’s Lynn, and currently employs 28 people.
The core business is to machine and hold stocks of high quality Scandinavian planed goods, and to distribute these nationwide, efficiently and effectively. Our customer base comprises mainly of independent Timber & Builders merchants throughout England & Wales.
The volume stock items are for the most part machined in-house by way of two production lines, using Weinig and Wadkin technology. A wealth of expertise within the milling operation ensures goods are produced efficiently to a consistently high standard; length stamped and packaged mainly in 1m3 sets for ease of handling and distribution. Raw material is sourced chiefly from Setra, and shipped to King’s Lynn at 4 weekly intervals using a dedicated vessel. All other products, including specials and primed & treated items are produced at King’s Lynn using similar high quality raw material.
The company has over the years built up a reputation for good service and consistent products. An extremely knowledgeable sales force and back-up team, right through to our warehouse staff has helped us maintain our well-earned reputation.
M&S (Softwood) Ltd is both FSC & PEFC Chain of Custody certified, and has been regularly audited by TRADA to ensure standards are maintained and adhered to.
The mission for M&S (Softwood) Ltd is to continue its growth in a steady and sustainable manner so as not to compromise its position providing its customers with a consistent quality & service at all times.
